Caleb – Avid Runner
Tell us about your training last week.
this past week my training dropped significantly, one big reason was running 12 miles short on my long run due to working early saturday morning. my mileage dropped significantly to 32 miles last week and it needed to be around 60 plus miles.
Hardest part? Easiest?
the hardest part…..my running partner/girlfriend just got a stress fracture in her foot and that means outside of my running group on thursday evenings and saturday mornings i am running on my own.
the easiest part…..getting outside to run. the weather is and will be perfect all the way until roughly the end of november
As we head into the fall, do you feel refreshed for your training or does the cooler weather have a negative effect? Are you feeling ready for your event or wish you had more time? How does the weather play into your training?
the fall is actually my favorite time of the year to run. not only is the temperature perfect and the leaves falling, but all of the best races are in the fall. the only downfall is the sun goes down sooner and for those who work late like myself get off work around 7p.m. so i have to get up early to enjoy running this time of the year
Aubrey – Busy Mom
hhhhh, cool weather!!!!!! I LOVE the weather when it’s 60s and 70s. I can run and bike forever!!! It makes me spend so much more time outside, but I hate when it stays dark later in the morning.
I am getting excited for the 1/2 marathon, however, I don’t feel like I’ve been training as much as I should. I have had a cold this week, so it’s hard to breathe!
Monday- ran 3 miles
Tuesday- weights
Wednesday- ran 2 miles, pilates
Thursday- slept in!
Friday- biked 7 miles
Saturday- ran 4 miles
Sunday- was hung over.
Good week, but this Saturday I need to run 6 and I think it might be a little tough.
Chris – Working out for Wedding
Tell us about your training this week:
Training was good. I attended a class on Portion Distortion which gave some great tips for controlling portions as well as educating on what actual portion sizes are. It was a bit shocking. My diet has continued to get better and better. Megan and Olivia joined me for the class and we are all on board together. I visited Caleb (the Avid Runner listed above) at Metro Walk and Run to get a new pair of running shoes and have been running most every day!
Hardest Part? Easiest?
The weekend was tough because we seem to have so much stuff going on for the wedding. This on top of football season and things that I “want” to do does not leave much time for fitness. I still managed to get a mile or two in each day! I have seen results and am feeling way better, so that makes everything EASIER!

The weather is amazing! I am ready to get this wedding done, as some parts of the planning just add stress. I feel like I am in shape. I am hoping to knock off a few more pounds, but ultimately am pretty pleased with where I am. I like summer way more than winter, so that aspect of it bums me out a bit but I am not the “grass is always greener” type of person.
Amber – Marathon Newbie
Tell us about your training this week:
This past week I slowly worked my miles up to 6.5. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday I ran 4-5 miles a day and today I ran 6.5 miles, so I’m back to where I left off pre-injury. I felt great this week and my knee was feeling perfect!
Hardest part? Easiest?
I felt great all week and the weather was pretty perfect, minus the humidity at the beginning of the week. The hardest part of my runs have been the first mile for some reason. I just have to get past that 1st mile and then I feel great. I have been working on my mile pace and that was difficult for me. I’ve been trying to stay between 8:00-8:30 each mile. I use my Nike Plus to keep track of this for me and it is great!

I love the fall weather. I love running in shorts/capris and a tshirt and not sweating so much! On the other hand.. winter weather is not my friend. It’s hard for me to get out in run in 40 degree weather so I’m not looking forward to that. I’m just praying for 60-70 degree weather for the next month
As for my event, I wish I had more time. I am actually looking into other half marathons that are during other weekends. With a 7am start time and a wedding the night before the marathon, I’m thinking it’s not a good idea, especially for my first half! My parents live in Dallas and I’m looking into marathons there as well. I’m still undecided about whether to run the KC marathon or not, and I’m going to continue training as usual.
