Legacy Unleashed 5K and LS Chamber Health Fair

This past Saturday I ran in the Legacy Unleashed 5K and took 1st Place! I know what you are thinking…wow, 1st place, way to go! Well, I wish it were that way too. But I have to confess, I was the only male in my age division. Ha-ha. Oh well, I’ll take it.

The weather Saturday turned out to be great. What a day for a 5K. I suspect there will be no better day in January. There was a pretty solid turnout of about 100 runners and walkers. Take a look at some pictures of the event courtesy of BJ Taylor

I got a late start to the race, as I was setting up for the Health Fair inside and barely made it outside in time. I had to jog to the starting line and never got a chance to tie my shoes. Consequencly, about half way through the race, my shoe laces came completely untied and I was forced to stop and tie them. I also had a little knee trouble, I am guessing from the lack of stretching and warming-up. I ended up with a time of 31:07 which is not very good, but none-the-less I am running and beginning my quest for 30 events in 2009.

The Health Fair was inside the Legacy Community Center, which is a fantastic facility. Big THANKS to the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce for their efforts to make the Health Fair happen and such a success. A lot of people came through and it proved to be a great spring board for the Lee’s Summit Billion Step Challenge. We were able to set up a lap top to show people the new site and how to sign up to join the Billion Step Challenge. We are really excited about being able to make a program like this available to the public absolutely free. I would like to thank our sponsors; Lee’s Summit Chamber, Lee’s Summit Journal, Truman Medical Center - Lakewood, WIC, Greater Lee’s Summit Healthcare Foundation, Summit Rehab and Wellness Center, and Rockhill Orthopaedics. Please spread the word about the Billion Step Challenge so we can reach our goal! This also creates a tremendous opportunity for local companies to support wellness in the workplace and potentially administer walking competitions parallel to the Billion Step Challenge.

Good job, Chris. I'm going to have to try and run a 5k sometime. I am not that great of a runner though.

As you can tell from my time, I am not a great runner either. ha-ha. Let's just hope I get better as time goes on. That is what it is all about, getting better and moving in the right direction.
