Walker of the Week: John Wisniewski (7/06/2009)

New blog series – Walker of the Week! I highlight at least one walker each week. I choose the walker randomly by monitoring the different challenges and selecting someone who has recently added steps. Be sure to add your steps more often so there is a better chance I pick you! I encourage everyone to comment on these posts to share an answer to any one of the questions I ask the walker of the week. I hope more people will share their thoughts and comments which will help us continue to inspire more and more people to get out and be more active!

Name: John Wisniewski

City you live in:  Lee’s Summit

Challenge you are participating in:  Lee’s Summit Billion Step Challenge

How long have you been a walker?  Walking since 1995 before that running since 1984

Where is your favorite place to walk?  My neighborhood, the lake, anywhere I am.  Best scenery has been the northern coast of California and Seattle.

How many total steps have you contributed to the challenge? (you can see this on the challenge page in the grey box toward the top of the screen) I’m only tracking exercise steps, over 500,000.  I figure I walk another 5 or 6,000 per day.

Other than walking all the time (ha-ha) what do you like to spend your time doing?  Being a grandfather, mowing and cooking.

Closing thoughts or comments? I wish more people were involved with this effort.  Our lifestyles are changing so much and obesity is becoming a major health problem.  Walking is such an easy way to exercise.  KCfit is great and Chris is doing a good job marketing it.  Have you noticed how people think you’re strange to walk outside at 5:30am in January when its 17degrees?
